Designed for tactical, duty, or general use, the variable-output SureFire U2 Ultra LED flashlight fits conveniently in the palm of your hand, yet is more versatile than lights several times its size. The U2 Ultra is outfitted with a virtually indestructible light emitting diode (LED) with six selectable output levels. The levels include a long-running low beam that's suitable for reading maps, a brilliant tactical level high beam that's five times as intense as a large two D-cell flashlight, and four settings in between. The multiple output levels make this flashlight great for backpacking, camping, or disaster preparedness kits. In addition, the light runs for up to three hours at high output (50-plus lumens) and 175 hours at low output, so you needn't worry about the light failing at the worst possible moment.

The versatile SureFire U2 Ultra measures only 6 inches long.

The U2 Ultra is also built to last, with a rugged, aerospace-grade aluminum body that's Mil-Spec Type III hard anodized in black. The LED light source, meanwhile, has no filament to burn out or break, helping it last for thousands of hours. And to keep dust and the elements from penetrating the interior, the light is O-ring sealed and weatherproof. Other features include a tempered Pyrex window, an easy-to-use tailcap switch, a heavy-duty pocket clip, and a switch lockout that prevents accidental activation during transport or storage. The U2 Ultra, which includes batteries with a 10-year shelf life, carries a lifetime warranty.

About SureFire
The SureFire story begins in 1969, when Dr. John Matthews--an engineer with a Ph.D. from Cal Tech--founded the Newport Corporation in order to harness the power of the laser for industrial applications. Over time, Matthews turned his inventive mind toward shooting (his hobby and passion), hoping to adapt lasers as firearm sights. He eventually designed and patented a laser sight in 1979, and subsequently bought the laser sight business from the Newport board in order to focus exclusively on commercializing the product. The newly formed Laser Products debuted with a handgun sight for the Colt Trooper, following it up with a sight for a Ruger Mini-14.

Amzing flashlight - very easy to use and very bright - multiple brightness settings help conserve batteries and make more useful. I puchased Surefire Combat Rings and makes it very useful as defensive light with my pistol.

I'm having fun with this flashlight. I also got the T1A Titan after this to have one on my keychain, but the U2 light is much brighter. The U2 casing is very cool looking and easy to grip. Doesn't roll.

Yeah, it's expensive, but so is a Mercedes. The form-factor and features of this light are totally first class. The variable light intensity is really nice to give you just the right amount of light, or just the right amount of battery time.

I own 5 Surefire lights (soon to be 6, when my new M3 arrives). They are all serious-duty lights, and all are very capable as defensive tools. Even my lowest cost Surefire P2 is capable of emitting enough light to make you turn away your head even with your eyes closed.

The first time you take one of these outside at night, and switch it on, you cannot help but laugh out loud at the sheer volume of light that comes out of such a compact package.

The U2 Ultra is a sweet, super-high-quality light. Expensive but worth it.

This is the flagship of Surefire's LED line of high-performance flashlights, and as such lives up to their reputation. All the usual Surefire features like Type III hard anodized finish, lock-out tail-cap switch, digitally-controlled output. But the real deal-maker is the 6-position rotary brightness switch. You don't always need a retina-burning 80-lumen tactical beam, sometimes you just want to read a map. This single flashlight can do it all- I ended up giving away most of my Maglights after buying this light.

I suppose one could nitpick if they really wanted. I'd heard there were early problems with the switches, but none have been evident in the one I have. If there were any problems I have little doubt the company would be very quick to repair or replace. Secondly, the beam pattern has a mild thin spot in the middle. This "donut" effect is slightly annoying, but does not affect funtionality. Finally, the pocket clip is a little odd- people always ask what that little black knob is. Again, annoying, but not a big deal. (By the way, the pocket clip is just that, for a pocket; it was not designed as a belt clip, and people who insist on using it as such will end up calling SF for a replacement clip). All in all, very minor issues for what is now my favorite illumination device.

This is probably the best consumer LED hand held flashlight right now. 6 settings to choose from, the highest setting gives you 80+ lumens of clean even light, enough to light up the whole house at night. Lowest setting still gives you enough light to see 10 ft infront of you at 40+ hours! Prices is little bit expensive but you pay for what you get.
