If you were ever in a situation where you needed a flashlight, then you’ll know that flashlights never seem to be bright enough. This seems to be the case for most flashlights, but not the Surefire LX2 LumaMax LED flashlight/ This is a solid flashlight that’s perfect, with a gorgeous body and a very bright beam.
This LED flashlight was given to me on my birthday by my buddies because they knew how much I loved toys, and I’m in love with this flashlight ever since.
What to Look for When Buying a LED Flashlight
Surefire makes a lot of flashlights, and has numerous different flashlight models for different purposes. The great thing about this flashlight is that it’s so awesome to hold in your hand, and it feels good just wielding it. Turning it on is a joy as well, with the illumination that it provides almost staggering, and definitely blinding.
Light Power / Light Settings
This flashlight has two light settings, a low mode and a high mode. The low mode provides a beam that’s 15 lumens, and can last for 47 hours. The high mode provides a beam that’s 200 lumens, and can last for 2 hours. If you have typical self-defense flashlights, those are normally rated at 5 lumens, so you can imagine how bright this flashlight is. On the same note, it’s a great tool for self-defense at night because it literally blinds your aggressor (humans or animals) completely, and scares them away. Of course, you’ll also have the ability to see very far away when you have to as well.
To turn on the flashlight, you have two methods. In the first method, you can depress a button at the back of the flashlight. If you press it in halfway, it activates the low mode, and if you fully depress it, you activate the high mode. However, once you let the button go, the flashlight turns off. As you would probably imagine, there are some instances when you want the light to turn on and stay on, so we come to the second method. In this method, you turn on the flashlight by twisting the end, just like a Maglite. A full twist sets it to low mode, and a further half-twist sets it to high mode.
Beam Quality
As you can expect from a flashlight of this quality, the beam that it produces is uniform, white (not the least bit blue), bright, and free of any rings. This is a quality that you can actually see, and when you look at the illuminated area, you’ll see that it’s completely awash with bright, white light.
Build Quality
Simply amazing. This flashlight has the trappings of a high-quality product, and does not feel cheap in the least bit. It is made of anondized aluminum that makes it an absolute joy just to wield in your hand, and does not have any visible plastic parts at all.
Safety Features
The Surefire LX2 comes with a lanyard so that you can hang the flashlight from your neck. However, this is designed to break-away, so if the flashlight gets caught on something, it breaks off from your neck, and prevents from choking you. After that, it’s just a matter of snapping it back to reconnect it.
Batteries
The Surefire LX3 flashlight uses two 3-volt lithium batteries. It’s not a common battery, so if you want a backup box of batteries, I recommend just getting it straight from Surefire. To be clear, this is the Surefire SF12-BB box of 12 123A 3 volt lithium batteries that you want. Surefire claims that its lithium batteries last for 10 years, and from other reviewers, the Surefire batteries seem to perform and last longer than generics.
How Much Should You Expect to Pay?
The Surefire LX2 flashlight is available on many websites for above $200, but you really shouldn’t be paying any more than $200 for this camera. The cheapest we have seen it is on Amazon, who consistently sell this tactical flashlight for under $200.
Does it come with a warranty?
Yes, the Surefire LX2 comes with a lifetime warranty (except the batteries and LED).
What Current Owners Are Saying About This LED Flashlight
This LED flashlight has received rave reviews from most consumers on the net with an average of 5 out of 5 stars, making it one of the top LED flashlights around.
In my free time, I’m a pilot and a motorcycle rider, and I need a dependable light to read charts and maps, check plane wings for ice, check runways for debris and foreign objects, scout for camp sites, etc. The Surefire LX2 has good throw, while still offering a lower intensity setting for situations which do not need the high intensity.
True to the Surefire reputation, the LX2 guarantee is first class, the construction and materials are first class, and the performance is stellar. As you can expect, I’ve bought a lot of flashlights in the past. For the size, weight, quality of beam, and build construction, I have not found any other flashlight that can seriously compete with the Surefire LX2. This is a professional tool, and are the best available – and you pay for the top performance, quality and construction that you get.
