| Ultra compact (finger length), dual-output LED flashlight with extended runtime and tactical-level output. The E1B was developed as an everyday-carry flashlight for undercover officers and as a backup light for patrol officers but it's also ideal for outdoor, self-defense, and everyday use by civilians. The Backup features a virtually indestructible, electronically regulated light emitting diode (LED) that, on its "high" setting, produces a smooth, tactical-level beam (enough light to temporarily overwhelm the night-adapted vision of an aggressor) with four times the output, of a two-D-cell flashlight. And it continues generating tactical-light levels for 1.3 hours on a single battery. On its "low" setting, the E1B generates five lumens of light that's perfect for reading a map, checking an ID, or navigating a dark pathway, and generates useful light levels for 37 hours. And the E1B's click-on/off tailcap is programmed to instantly deliver maximum output when its pushbutton is depressed, a critical feature in law enforcement and tactical applications where a lot of light is frequently needed immediately. Rounding out this flashlight's features are its unique "melted" styling no knurling or sharp edges to catch on clothing and two-way pocket clip, which lets a user carry the Backup bezel up or down, whichever he or she prefers. |

I've carried this light every single day for almost 2 years now. I own 4 different Surefire G-2's and various other little mag-lites, penlights, etc...that I bought in life before I found Surefire's. (All non-surefire's are delegated to a single kitchen drawer, but wife and kids all grab Surefires when they need/want a light.)
Being left handed I carry this in my right(weak hand) pocket. It's short enough that I can sit without it bothering me or getting bound-up in the pocket. I can lift either a knife clipped in my left pocket, or I have a weapons permit and that is on my left side...but the surefire comes up first for everything from my off-hand side to see whatever I need to.
It's simply amazing to me how much you will use something if it's close at hand. I use this light several times a day on a slow day. Battery life is amazing and you get your choice between blinding and low light - very handy! It defaults to the "blinding" mode which is great - no thinking about it - so it's always ready to be there for your personal defense - when you need it at the highest setting.
The clip is cool too - it clips a couple different ways. Like to my ball cap - a bit heavy, but again...if it's 'on me' I'll use it - and since I wear a ball cap all the time when not working, it's a great hands free way to go. Working in the garage, on the vehicles, etc.. I have several great headlamps, but they are in my pack, or in the house, etc... and this E1b is "on me". Being able to attach to a ball cap is a really cool deal. I've even used it that way at baseball tournaments in dark dug-outs.
Becuase the clip is a 2-way clip, it also clips to packs, PFD's, heck about anything. I've gone swimming (dumped from the boat accidently) and it's been fine. It's been dropped countless times. It's got wear scratches on it, but it's as functional as the day I got it. Yes, it's REALLY expensive (so I thought) but knowing how much I use it now...it's worth every penny.
I would buy another just like it in a HEARTBEAT if I ever had to. |

| Don't get hung up on the price - this is the most amazing little flashlight you'll ever see. If you need something for work or recreation that will provide amazing light, and if you value quality - "run over it with a truck and it still works" quality - and a company (Surefire) that backs up their product, just buy it. You, like me, will be amazed. |
very nice

| I carry my backup everywhere I go if I'm wearing a coat or jacket. It fits perfect in the pockets, and it's very bright for the size of the light. |
Best compact combat light available!

| I currently own five Surefire lights and have used a number of weapon mounted Surefires as well. I have to say that this light replaced the E2D that I carried every day for years. The option of low/high power is simply fantastic. The low power option is great for everyday type uses that I encounter frequently. Occasionally I'll use the high power mode to spotlight something at night. The ability to do both with the same light is fantastic as I previously had to carry two lights to accomplish the same thing. The belt clip is a nice feature but not particularly useful if you are exceptionally active and I usually carry this torch in my lower right trouser pocket of my ACUs. While I always carry a more powerful Surefire on combat missions attached to my rifle, this little guy always travels with me as a great back-up or a companion for my M9. Truly a great light and an excellent value! |
SureFire E1B Backup Review

This is the best flashlight I have ever owned, as well as the most expensive.
When I received it, the first thing that struck me was how small it is. I was slightly disappointed at its size, because for some reason I imagined it to be slightly larger. It's so small that when you hold it, you cant even see it from the back of your hand. And yet, the light is so bright that when I accidentally flashed in my own eyes, I kept seeing blind spots and had to wait 3-5 mins until I got my full vision back. To say its bright is an understatement.
I took it with me on a cabin trip last weekend, and the strength of the light really impressed me. It can fully illuminate whichever direction its pointed into, which was great to have while walking my dog in pure darkness.
At first, I thought the lower light setting was pretty useless, until I started using the flashlight in the car where the brightest setting is so bright that it will reflect really hard off of ANY map or paper to the point where it's unreadable. Now I definitely appreciate the lower light setting.
Feels great in your hands and I have instantly become a lifetime buyer of SureFire flashlights. |
