The X03 combines small size and bright, uniform illumination that, as far as I know, is simply not achievable in flashlights that use incandescent bulbs. The LED in the X03 puts out 82 lumens at just 5.8-watt LED (as per LED specifications), and it won't drain your batteries nearly as fast as an incandescent bulb. Also, LEDs don't break when you drop them. As anyone who's found themselves in a pitch-black crawl space with a nonfunctioning flashlight will tell you, this is no small advantage. The X03 features a twist-operated, three-mode switch cap, which enables the user to turn it on and off without flipping it around from an under- to overhand grip. As we mentioned above, the light projected by the X03 is exceptionally uniform from the edge of the beam to the center, making it unnecessary to fiddle with a focus mechanism to get the beam just the way you want it. Not only that, but this flashlight has a remarkably strong beam for its size, and it maintains its integrity and focus extremely well at distance. I would highly recommend this to electricians, contractors, and so on as a substitute for incandescent utility flashlights of comparable size. It would also work as an emergency light in the home. It offers a combination of durability, reliablility, and quality of illumination that's hard to top.--Josh Dettweiler What's in the Box Flashlight, lanyard, two replaceable lithium batteries

Great Flashlight, Pros and Cons

I did not purchase this light from amazon.com because I was so eager to buy it and have it quickly. I have have and still do own Maglites, but at the moment they are sitting underneath my bed collecting dust.
The Inova XO3 is far superior to any MagLite I have ever owned, including the 3D Cell LED MagLite. The build is absolutely perfect. The length and width fits the hand comfortably while keeping easy operation. I have dropped the light from about 4 feet up onto concrete and it landed on the head. There is only a small chip that you can hardly see, and the operation was not affected. This is definitely one tough light!
PROS:
* Comfortable finish, great compact size
* Nice light output, brightness. Beam is soft white color with no blue/yellow tint. Beam is focused in the center with a smooth aura of light surrounding it.
* Very bright beam, does not dim noticeably after several uses until the batteries are dead.
* Made in AMERICA!!! Great to support American made products and labor!
I don't even think about purchasing incandescent-bulb lights. For this lights' size, the output power was very surprising. Ever purchase those items that once you have them you can FEEL quality? This is one of them. Way to go American made products! This is a great light for tactical use, whatever that may be in your case. It is fully operable with one hand.
CONS:
* Batteries are expensive.
* No strobe/high/low mode.
* No belt holster, lanyard, case, or any accessories.
As far as batteries go, the Lithium 123A cells can cost you if you buy them from a general retail store like Target or Wal-Mart. (As much as 7.50 each!!) I bought the Surefire 12-pack from a gun store. With a ten year shelf life, they will last years and be ready when I need them.
There is only one level of beam intensity, and that is the full on, 135 lumen beam. If you can move your thumb fast enough to operate the momentary push button on the back, you can simulate a strobe mode, which is very disorienting. This light is so bright that looking directly into the beam even for 1 second will leave your eyes with blue spots in your center-focus for a few minutes.
We all have different opinions of value, and in this situation, Inova only provides the light for your $45+ dollars. There are some generic belt holsters that stretch to fit up to D-cell lights ([...]). If you are wondering, the mini MagLite 2AA cell belt holster does NOT fit this light.
In conclusion, this light packs power and quality, yet staying smaller than the size of the typical TV remote. This light could possibly be used for disorientation in the dark against intruders or even a cruel prank against friends. Yes, there are brighter lights out there, but when it comes to Inova, quality and durability are a must have. This will light will light up whatever you need it to, and personally I think going brighter than this would be considered overkill.

Bright light. I will purchase the 3-4 D cell battery operated flashlight due to the ease of replacing the batteries, not to mention the cost.

I have several Inova X5 flashlights, all the colors, blue, green, white and red. This is my first XO3. I gotta say, it's a solidly built, brilliantly bright light. It really lights up the darkness, even more so than the X5's. Just bright bright bright. I really love that they're water resistant and durable. Inova makes great flashlights.
THE SWITCH COMPLAINT

I am completely sold on this light. I was reluctant to spend this much for a light but am pleased that I did. I have a maglight. It has been returned to the manufacturer twice because of the switch. The first time there was no problem getting it repaired. I sent it along with the receipt. The second time they wanted me to pay for the repair because I no longer had the receipt. I said that was because they failed to send the receipt back to me after the first repair. The cost of the repair plus the whipping would have been as much as a new light. They just sent me a new light this time. The switch just started to hang up both times. I couldn't cut it off. Had to bang it a few times or unscrew it. With that said, the location of the switch on the Inova XO3 hasn't bothered me at all. I knew where it was when I bought it so I cant complain. This light is lightweight and compact. It puts out a lot of light and has been very handy. It just feels solid. Be aware that you may not be able to buy batteries at the corner convenience store but they seem to last much much longer than the common batteries. I would highly recommend this flashlight.
