Quickly,
If you want a good general-purpose flashlight, I highly recommend this flashlight!
Long lasting (I use it every day and the batters are 8 years past expiration and still going strong! The cells have the little test strip on them, and the exp date is Jan 2002!) I have never had to change batteries yet...
Durable, well made, good light, good grip, solid feel, case is not round so it won't roll if you put it down, the lanyard is just fine, high in quality. I liked it so much I bought another one in case this one ever wears out or breaks!
Now my rambling:
I highly recommend this light. I don't have a better general purpose flashlight in my collection of about 200 flashlights. Okay, I've been collecting them for 35 years and I use flashlights on the job, but not this one. It's more of a general purpose flashlight, and probably my favorite for that category. If you buy it I an certain you'll like using it. I don't really know the effective range but is more than sufficent for most uses, like hiking a trail in the dark, or searching the basement or attic or behind the refridgerator etc.
I think I have been spoiled by so many good flashlights I have purchased in the last few years, but this one, not being the brightest or furthest reachig is fine for everyday use. If you remember what you got form a 2-D cell flashlight with a bulb, this one deliveres about the same coverage only much whiter light and for a much longer time. I liked the first one I bought so much I bought a second in case this one ever fails. Aparently, they are discontinued. :( I have no idea how long the batteries last, but the ones in the light I am using are several 8 YEARS past expiration and are still going strong. If I need a long lsating, dependable light to take into a cave system or out in the woods for a long period of time, this is the light I am taking with me. Well designed, well manfactured with only one very minor flaw. There is a very slight (one 10,000th of an inch I am told) flaw in the reflector, so the white spot in the middle has a darkish area in the centre. Golly, gee, I can live with that! I was told the final model had that fixed. The main spot and the flood areas are the same as you'd expect from a good old fashoned flashlight only whiter and perhaps not as far reaching but it lights more completely. If they made a hand crank version I'd buy that one too and retire a lot of flashlights as it would probably run for hours on a single charge.
If nothing else it is a cool looking light that actually turns heads. I really wish they had this design in a high power D-cell model, (with a focus capability.) Oh well, you can't have everything! |
Fails during critical use, horrible support

| The light would be great, but it fails during use. The light goes out inrtermittently and you have to shake it or jiggle it to get the light back on. I've tried 4 different types of batteries including Energizers and Duracells, same issue. The Inova website is horrible to navigate, heavy-handed and has no useful information except a flash page that gives a non-toll-free CT number whihc gets you a recording. I sent it in per instructions with the 5 buck warrantry fee, they sent it back a month later saying they couldn't replicate the problem. Of c ourse, it still does it. I'll stick with retrofitted LED Maglites. It's obvious Inova doesn't care about consumer sales very much now that their police ordersare bringing in the loads of cash. |
